  • On campus – Join campus wireless through the eduroam network.
  • In Resident Halls – Connect to Retriever Home. This service is designed to give students a secure, home-like network experience, with easy access for all their personal devices; including phones, laptops, tablets, printers, gaming consoles, Roku, Amazon Alexa, and more.
  • Mobile applications – This page offers a link to a list of mobile applications that are useful for your time at UMBC. These include important apps for courses, student life, and accessing campus resources.
  • myUMBC – Easy access to university resources like your Profile, class registration, account balance, Blackboard, online groups, and more.
  • Blackboard – Access your online course content, interact with instructors and peers, post discussion, upload assignments, review instructor feedback, and participate in Blackboard Collaborate sessions.
  • Office365 – Use the Microsoft Office suite online, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and more.
  • Webex Meetings – Everyone has their own personal Webex room with an easy to remember name https://umbc.webex.com​/meet/<username>
  • eLumin VDE – UMBC’s Virtual Desktop Environment available to all students 24/7
  • Respondus Lockdown Browser – Complete your tests, exams, and other assessments securely. Some instructors require the use of the Respondus LockDown Browser for their assignments.
  • Google Meet – Quick and easy video conferencing for meeting as a group or one-on-one.
  • Microsoft Teams – Chat, call, or meet with your classmates from a single application.
  • Windows Defender (PC) – Free virus protection for Windows devices.
  • Avira AV (Mac) – Free virus protection for your Mac device.

Laptop Loan Program

The AOK Library, with support from DoIT, provides the UMBC community with access to Mac, Windows, and Chrome laptops on a first-come, first-served and temporary basis. Learn more about the program at AOK Library Laptop Loans.

  1. Choose a strong and secure password for your myUMBC Account. Change myUMBC Password
  2. Use Multi-Factured Authentication, UMBC’s uses Duo. Learn more about DUO and why it is important in our FAQs for multi-Factor Authentication with DUO.
  3. Report online phishing or other suspicious digital activity at security@umbc.edu.
  4.  Stay current with IT Security Notices by following the IT Securty myUMBC group.
  5. Email and Text Emergency Alerts. Signup for Emergency Alerts.

Set Up Your Account

Your myUMBC account is your primary login for access to most UMBC systems. You will receive your Campus ID number (needed to complete this account set-up) via email.
