Jason Paluck

Associate Vice President for Strategy and Operations

Jason Paluck, who has short grey hair and is wearing a black suit, a white dress shirt, and a blue tie.Jason Paluck has been building education technology since before the term existed. In 1996, he helped create one of the nation’s first online graduate programs. In 1999, he founded CentreLearn, a learning management platform that grew to serve federal disaster medical teams and public safety agencies nationwide before its acquisition in 2014. He subsequently served as Chief Technology Officer at VectorLearning/Providence Equity Partners, leading software development and technical strategy across numerous education brands.

Jason is now Associate Vice President for the Division of Information Technology at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC). As Associate VP for Strategy and Operations, he plays a critical strategic role in DoIT. His primary responsibilities are providing executive leadership, operational oversight, and strategic direction for the university’s information technology infrastructure and services. He works closely with the other DoIT AVP’s to coordinate planning and support cross-cutting projects. As UMBC adopts more cloud services as critical business services, he works closely with the General Counsel’s Office and Procurement to support UMBC’s strategic sourcing and vendor management.

He also continues to lead Compass Point Labs, the education technology firm he founded in 1997, which builds learning systems for clients, including the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Beyond higher education, Mr. Paluck serves as Team Commander of the MD-1 Disaster Medical Assistance Team within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and works as a Paramedic with Rockland Paramedic Services in New York.

Jason holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Emergency Health Services Management and Administration from the University of Maryland and is completing his Ph.D. in Information Systems at UMBC, where his research explores how knowledge graphs and AI can help universities work more efficiently.
